In ARQUIMEA SPACE develops spaceflight parts and equipment for satellites and launchers. We specialize in thermal control systems, structural panels, optical payloads, avionics, release and deployment mechanisms, and rad-hard microelectronics. Together with our tech partners we provide high-throughput smallsats and their subsystems. Our brand-new factory in Madrid is suited to integrate satellites and constellations.
We are looking for a Ground & Operations Senior Systems Enginee with the mission to lead end-to-end operational architecture, execution, and security of the satellite communication system's ground segment and satellite control (including LEO telecommunication constellations as BeetleSat).
Tasks to be performed:
1. Operational Strategy & Governance
• Define and execute the operational concept (CONOPS) for telecommunication programs (including LEO telecommunication constellations) across space, ground, and user segments.
• Ensure alignment with programmatic objectives, regulatory frameworks, and international standards.
• Lead operational readiness reviews, service validation, and full lifecycle operations management.
2. Ground Segment Management
• Oversee the design, development, integration, verification and validation, and daily operation of all ground infrastructure, including:
-Satellite control centers (SCCs)
-TT&C stations
-Ground gateways and data centers
• Coordinate system engineering in ground segment and operations activities with customers, partners, and subcontractors.
• Ground Segment interface definition and system verification & validation activities
• Lead the production by the team of all technical deliverables on ground segment and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to meet milestones and deliverables.
• Ensure seamless coordination between hardware, software, and mission-critical IT systems.
3. Operations Control & Execution
• Direct satellite operations including LEOP, in-orbit testing (IOT), maneuver planning, and anomaly resolution.
• Lead the real-time command, telemetry, and health monitoring of satellites and related systems.
• Establish robust shift operations, on-call protocols, and escalation paths.
• Drive the development, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of operational tools, automation processes, and mission databases.
• Consolidate and present fleet-level reports, summarizing satellite health, subsystem performance, anomalies, and operational KPIs to internal stakeholders and management.
• Lead knowledge transfer efforts across satellite missions and generations, promoting internal documentation, standardization, and best practices.
Required skills, experience and candidate profile:
• Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or equivalent.
• Professional certifications (ITIL, CISSP, PMP, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
• 12–15+ years of experience in satellite ground systems and operations.
• Proven track record in ground segment architecture, mission operations, and communications.
• Proficiency in operational tools such as SCOS-2000, EPOCH, or similar mission control systems.
• Familiarity with ECSS standards, satellite telemetry protocols, and high-availability system design.
• Strategic thinker with a high level of operational discipline.
• Decisive under pressure, with strong crisis management capabilities.
• Skilled in project coordination and stakeholder engagement.
• Technically fluent with mission-critical systems and operational security.
• Eligible for or holding higher-level security clearance.
• Experience managing classified systems and secure ops environments.
The position is located in our Headquarters of Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).
The candidate must be eligible to work in the EU and must be able to travel to the US.
