In ARQUIMEA SPACE develops spaceflight parts and equipment for satellites and launchers. We specialize in thermal control systems, structural panels, optical payloads, avionics, release and deployment mechanisms, and rad-hard microelectronics. Together with our tech partners we provide high-throughput smallsats and their subsystems. Our brand-new factory in Madrid is suited to integrate satellites and constellations.
We are looking for a Spacecraft Systems Engineer with the mission of taking responsability for the design, development, integration, and validation of satellite systems. This includes leading the design and verification of critical subsystems such as:
- EPS (Electrical Power Subsystem)
- Propulsion
- Onboard Data Handling (OBDH)
- AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System)
- Communication and TT&C systems
- Associated sensors and actuators
Tasks to be performed:
- Assess customer and mission needs to define system requirements, technical parameters, and ensure compatibility of all interfaces.
- System Architecture: Develop and maintain the spacecraft system architecture, ensuring consistency and alignment across all subsystems.
- Lead the design interdisciplinary coherence, development, and verification of:
- EPS: power generation, storage, distribution, and regulation.
- OBDH: operational modes, redundancy, FDIR, data buses, TM/TC.
- Propulsion: chemical and/or electric architectures, mission integration, and AOCS interfaces.
- AOCS: sensors, actuators, control algorithms, operational modes, and redundancies.
- Communication systems: telemetry, telecommand, and tracking links, including RF and SDR platforms.
- Perform trade-off analyses, simulations, and optimization of mass, power, cost, and performance at system level.
- Coordinate hardware and software integration across subsystems.
- Conduct environmental and functional validation testing at spacecraft level.
- Lead troubleshooting and anomaly resolution throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation: requirements, ICDs, design reviews, and verification plans.
The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that the overall spacecraft architecture meets mission and operational requirements.
Required skills, experience and candidate profile:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Master’s or PhD Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering related technical discipline is a plus.
- At least 10 years working in spacecraft systems engineering or in key subsystems (EPS, OBDH, Propulsion, or AOCS). Specific expertise in:
- EPS: solar arrays, batteries, BMS, power distribution/regulation, EMC, fault tolerance.
- Propulsion systems: chemical/electric propulsion, mission integration.
- OBDH: FDIR, redundancies, buses, TM/TC, operational modes.
- AOCS: sensors, actuators, orbit and attitude control, algorithms.
- Communications: TT&C, RF, antennas, protocols (CAN, SpaceWire, Ethernet, RS-4XX).
- Experience with requirements management tools.
- Familiarity with reliability, FMECA, radiation and Worst Case analysis and tools.
- Knowledge of radiation-hardened electronics and space-qualified components.
- Hands-on experience with avionics hardware.
- Understanding communication protocols, such as CAN, RS-4XX, Ethernet, SpaceWire and others.
- Experience with digital, analog, mixed signal, and power design and analysis processes for space programs form a systems point of view.
- Hands-on experience with spacecraft integration and environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, radiation and EMC/EMI).
- Familiarity with antenna and RF systems for spacecrafts TT&C.
- Experience working with product/component developers and vendors supply chain.
The position is located in our Headquarters of Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).
The candidate must be eligible to work in the EU and must be able to travel to the US.
