Applied Research Scientist – 3D Representations & Engine Integration
If you are passionate about technology and want to take on new challenges to help improve the society we live in, this is your opportunity!
ARQUIMEA, we are a technology company operating globally and providing innovate solutions and products in highly demanding sectors.
Our areas of activity are Aerospace, Defense & Security, Big Science, Biotechnology and Fintech.
ARQUIMEA Research Center (ARC), part of ARQUIMEA , was born in 2019 with the aim of inventing the technologies of tomorrow. An environment of innovation and excellence at European level from which senior and junior researchers from around the world develop disruptive technologies and business models that will serve as an engine of socio-economic growth in the medium and long term.
We are looking for an Applied Research Scientist – 3D Representations & Engine Integration (TRL 5–6)
Tasks to be performed:
Analyze and deeply understand internal and external state-of-the-art methods related to 3D Gaussian Splatting, neural rendering, and advanced 3D representations.
Perform feasibility and gap analysis to determine whether product requirements can be met through:
o direct reuse of existing methods,
o engineering-driven combinations of known techniques,
o or the need for new research to be specified and pushed to TRL 1–4 teams.
Act as the scientific authority within a mixed team (Applied Research Scientist + ML Engineer), supporting technical decision-making for product integration.
Define clear technical requirements and research specifications for internal research teams, without necessarily implementing novel methods
Asess integration constraints and opportunities within real-time engines, such as Unreal Engine or unity, and professional VFX/content creation pipelines.
Collaborate with ML engineers and software engineers to ensure scientific soundness of product-oriented implementations.
Analyze trade-offs between neural, point-based, and mesh-based 3D representations under real production constraints
Required skills, experience and candidate profile:
Degree in engineering or related field.
PhD or equivalent research experience in computer graphics, geometry processing, computer vision, or similar.
At least 3 years in applied research, R&D, or advanced technical roles involving 3D representations or computer graphics.
Strong background in 3D representations and geometry processing.
Ability to analyze academic research papers and complex codebases.
Solid programming skills in Python.
Experience with game engines, creative tools, or real-time systems.
Understanding of ML-based methods and collaboration with ML engineers.
Experience with Git and collaborative workflows.
Additionally, we will also value experience in the following areas:
Exposure to 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), or neural rendering techniques.
Familiarity with real-time engines (Unreal Engine).
GPU-based computation, shaders, or real-time rendering pipelines.
High-performance rendering or compute technologies (C++, Vulkan, etc.).
