We are looking for an Optical Fiber Sensors Engineer – FOG Integration & Test to join our Photonics and Quantum Sensing team and contribute to the development of high-performance Fiber Optic Gyroscope technologies.
This is a strongly hands-on laboratory role, focused on the implementation, assembly, integration, characterization and testing of optical fiber sensing systems and FOG subsystems.
The successful candidate will initially contribute to the development and validation of a high-performance FOG-based inertial system and will subsequently continue working on the experimental development and performance improvement of next-generation Fiber Optic Gyroscopes and advanced inertial sensing technologies.
Tasks to be performed
Build, assemble and integrate optical fiber sensing subsystems and FOG experimental setups.
Perform fusion splicing, preparation, handling and integration of specialty optical fibers.
Support the assembly and integration of optical fiber coils and other FOG photonic components.
Set up and operate optical laboratory equipment and experimental test benches.
Design and execute characterization campaigns for FOGs and optical fiber sensing subsystems.
Characterize parameters such as noise, bias stability, scale factor behavior, thermal sensitivity and repeatability.
Perform functional, performance and environmental testing of optical sensing subsystems.
Troubleshoot optical, optoelectronic and fiber-related issues during integration and testing.
Analyze experimental data and identify the origin of unexpected behavior or performance degradation.
Support calibration and optimization activities.
Work closely with FOG design engineers and with electronics, software, mechanics and systems engineering teams.
Document assembly procedures, test configurations, experimental results and lessons learned.
Contribute to improving the repeatability and robustness of assembly, integration and testing processes.
Support the transition from laboratory prototypes toward preproduction and industrialized FOG solutions.
Required skills, experience and candidate profile
Degree in Physics, Photonics, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related field (PhD highly valued).
3–4 years of hands-on experience in optical fiber sensors, photonic systems, optical instrumentation or related technologies.
Strong laboratory experience in optical assembly, integration, characterization and testing.
Practical experience in fiber handling and fusion splicing, preferably involving specialty fibers.
Experience with optical laboratory instrumentation and experimental test setups.
Experience in sensor characterization, data analysis and performance evaluation.
Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work autonomously in the laboratory while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
High level of technical English.

Previous experience with Fiber Optic Gyroscopes or interferometric fiber optic sensors.
Inertial sensing or precision instrumentation.
MATLAB and Python for experimental data processing and analysis.
Calibration and validation of high-performance sensing systems.
Environmental testing and qualification activities.
Development of aerospace, defense or other high-reliability systems.
Experience supporting the transition from laboratory prototypes to repeatable products.
Quantum sensing technologies.
